Featured Artist of the Day - Kenny Rogers

We were saddened today to hear about the passing of legend Kenny Rogers at 81 years old. Born in Houston, Texas, Kenny started singing at an early age and formed the group The First Edition. Their first hit was "Ruby Don't Take Your Love To Town" that climbed to #6 on the US charts. They later had "Something's Burning," "Just Dropped In," "Tell It All Brother," and "Reuben James." Kenny Rogers and the New Edition had a TV variety series on from 1971 to 1973 called Rollin On the River. The stress of that show caused the eventual breakup of the group and for Kenny to go out on his own. Kenny started racking up the hits- Lucille, Don't Fall in Love with a Dreamer, Though the Years, We've Got Tonight, and two number one hits - Islands in the Stream, and Lady. In the 80s, while going through a slump, Kenny started an acting career, starting with the TV-movie - The Gambler, based on his 1979 hit. He also starred in the 1982 movie Six Pack. In the 90's he became less and less visible. But, in 1999, he produced the album "She Rides Wild Horses" which included the #1 hit - Buy me a Rose. In total, Kenny had 21 number one hits: Lucille - 1977 Daytime Friends - 1977 Love or Something Like It - 1978 All I Ever Need Is You - 1978 Every Time Two Fools Collide - 1978 The Gambler - 1979 She Believes in Me - 1979 You Decorated my Life - 1979 Coward of the County - 1979 Lady - 1980 Don't Fall In Love With A Dreamer - 1980 Through The Years - 1981 What Are We Doing in Love - 1981 I Don't Need You - 1981 Share Your Love With Me - 1981 Love Will Turn You Around - 1982 We've Got Tonight - 1983 Islands in the Stream - 1983 Crazy - 1984 Morning Desire - 1985 Tomb of the Unknown Love - 1986 Make No Mistake, She's Mine - 1987 Buy Me A Rose - 1999 To celebrate the memory of Kenny Rogers, we are filling the walls with a playlist of his hits: https://open.spotify.com/playlist/26AVXukdX9t3vdtu4Q1e1g?si=L2399KniQ1er0rdZczkh2A
